Don’t hesitate, backpack and travel
Perfume Pagoda tour
I took the fly from Ho Chi Minh city to Hanoi. The capital welcome me with warm weather and crytal clear sky.
It took 45 minutes to go from the airport to old quarter by taxi. I waved a Mai Linh hatchback taxi. The driver is friendly anf helpful, he told me quite a lot about the destination. But i think he could have that mooth just because i took his taxi with 30km range and this much better than stay in the downtown and see 5-7 guests travelling in very short distance.
He asked wether i had any hotel or hostel yet. i myself prefer to walk in and book for saving money than book in advance. Eventually after some looks around the old quarter i chose a hostel with dorm bed in Thanh Ha street. This is quite nice, clean double-decker bed.with just 7$ including breakfast.
For the next day I was free. I want to have outdoor activity. I came to ask the receptionist of the hostel whether they have 1 day tour available. For a few minutes of checking with the tour operators (i think), she told me the Perfume Pagoda tour. I booked at last minute but it turned out to be 1 of the best choice.
8:20am the tour guide came to pick me up. This is open tour, on the bus already 8 travelers enjoyed the “city tour” (they come to several different hotels to pick up and obviously the hotels are not so close!). Then after 2 more picks up, We start the trip. To arrive Perfume Pagoda you have to use the rowing boat of local. 6 people on 1 boat, and it took 1 and a half hour to arrive the other harbour. The river flows very gentle. The scenery is very peaceful. I’m lucky because I arrived there in the summer the good chance to see water lily flowers. What you should do in the roughly 90 minutes is to take photos of the landscape.
Perfume Pagoda is the complex of 15 temples, pagodas and caves. With the 1 day trip you have enough time to see just 2 pagoda: Thien Tru Pagoda (works as stopover) and the main pagoda or Perfume Pagoda. The special thing here is that the Pagoda stays inside the cave, and the cave is not at the foot of the mountain but near the top of mountain. Perfume pagoda now plays a very important role for spiritual life of local buddhists. This is the holly place for couples who are late to have babies (Vietnamese people take big consideration on having babies right after wedding). They come here to worship and ask for babies; many dreams come true. For others, Perfume Pagoda is the good place to enjoy festival – 3 month after Lunar new year.
This all above information from Tim, the very friendly, enthusiatic tour guide. he works for Aroka Travel. And if you really to have a joyful day in Chua Huong (Perfume Pagoda) , you should refer this : Arokatravel.com
